All Saints

Sunday is All Saints Sunday. Traditionally, All Saints falls on the first Sunday after All Souls (or All Hallows) Day, which is November 1st. The day before All Hallows is, of course, Hallows Eve, known now as Halloween. Halloween Night serves as a banishment of evil spirits to clear the air before we celebrate "all mortal souls" on November 1st, and all who achieved distinction through Christian service on All Saints Day.

This Sunday we will light candles and toll bells to remember the souls and saints who have gone before - those family members, friends, mentors, teachers, role models, guides, who have brought us to where we are today. Please take time this week to remember those who have passed on, not only in the last 12 months, but also in our life stories. We hope to commemorate them on Sunday in our worship service, and will invite you to light a candle in their honor, or include their name on a card which will be read for you as a candle is lit.

If you would like to read ahead to prepare yourself for the service, the Bible readings are Daniel 7: 1-3, 15-18; Ephesians 1: 11-23; and Luke 6: 20-31.
