Another thing I found... (back in 1999). It gives pause for thought, which is a good thing, especially in Lent.
Story of Creation...
Before things were, Creator was alone, and began to feel lonely. So Creator made the oceans and the waters. Then Creator made the beings that live in the waters, and the beings that live on the waters. Creator smiled. It was all good. But creator was still lonely.
The beings that live in the waters and the beings that live on the waters all knew Creator was still lonely. So they offered of themselves to help Creator. Frog dived down to the bottom of the watersand brought up some mud and offered it to Creator. Creator was very grateful for Frog's sacrifice. Creeator said, "I shall make some dry land. But I have nowhere to place the dry land." Then Old Mother Turlte came to Creator asn said, "Creator, you can place the dry land on my back." Creator was very gratful for this sacrifice.
Creator took the mud and made a ball out of it. Then Creator threw it down on Old Mother Turtle's back. As if flattened out it began to grow. As the mud began to grow, so did Old Mother Turtle. She grew and grew, and the earth began to grow and grow as well. Then when the earth got big enough it stopped growing.
Then Creator made all the plants and grasses and trees on the earth. And the waters went throughout the earth like blood, to nourish it. And Creator smiled, it was all good. But Creartor was still lonely.
The water and the earth and the grasses offered of themselves to Creator. Creator was very grateful for this sacrifice. Creator took water and earth and plants and made the beings that crawl and the four-legged beings, and the beings that fly. And they went all over the earth on Old Mother Turtles back. And Creator smiled. It was all good. But Creator was still lonely.
So all the beings had a council, and said, "Creator is stil lonely. Creator has given us good things. We have life, and we have a place to live, and we are happy. We have given of ourselves before, and we must do so again." So they came to Creator asnd said, "We know you are still lonely. We have had a council, and we have all agreed to help you." Worm made good soil and offerd it to Creator. Some of the earth gave of it's water. Creator accepted the sacrifices of earth and water. Creator mixed the gifts together and made the shapes of first-man and first-woman. Then all the beings came and offered a part of themselves. They placed their offerings in the mud shapes. Then when all the beings had placed their offerings inside the mud shapes, they stood back. Creator came forward. Creator was very grateful, and said, "I thank you all for your offerings"
Then Creator breathed on the shapes of first-man and first-woman. They stirred, then stood up and looked around. They saw Creator and they saw each other, and they saw all the things creator had made. They said, "We thank yo all for these good things. This is a good place for us. But how will we live here?"
The beings that crawl came to Creator and said, "We will teach them how to work." The beings that swim n the water said, "we will teach them how to swim." The plant-beings said,"we will teach them our medicine." Birds that sing said, "We will teach them good songs." Duck said, "I will teach them how to know thier way." Bear said, "I will teach them how to fish in the rivers, adn how to protect their young." Wolf said, "I will teach them how to hunt." Deer and Elk said, "We will teach them how to run up and down the mountains." Buffalo said, "I will teach them how to have a strong heart." And Eagle said, "I will teach them how to have a vision and pray."
Creator was very grateful for all that the beings had done. Creator smiled. Creator said to first-man and first-woman, "You must never forget what your brothers and sisters have done for you. You must honor and respect them for this. They are a part of you and you are a part of them. They have offered of themselves to you. They will offer of themselves again if you need them. Remember this in your hearts in a good way. You must speak of these things to your people and never forget what they have done." Creator was no longer lonely.
