Here's the tail end of the speech given by Dr Martin Luther King 40 years ago today... the day before he was assasinated. It resonates with the hope of Resurrection.
"Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord."
Can you feel the power of Hope here? What does it mean to you? Where is your hope?

You know, I've never read or completely heard his speech before. (shame on me, I know) But I have to say that this sounds like a person who has seen and spoken to God and knows EXACTLY what is about to happen. He speaks about longevity and how he would like to live a long life....only someone who knows that they won't live long really talk about such a thing. And he's not fearing any man...that sounds as if he's telling the person who is about to assassinate him that it's okay and he's not afraid because he knows that it has to be done for the cause. (that sounds familiar doesn't it)
This is a very powerful speech from a very brave man. And I say this because I've never really thought about it.....until now.
Many people have noticed the same thing. And, prophetically, he was killed the next day, which would be 40 years ago today.
He was on the balcony of teh motel in Memphis, when a friend of his told him it was cold and did he want a jacket. King said something like... yeah it is cold, maybe I should get a jacket. And right after that the shot rang out.
Did he make his peace... with God and life, and those who hated him? Sure does sound like he did. And he was only 39 years old.
