Baptized We Live

Baptized We Live

Most of you know that early in August Sandy and I became Members of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. As part of that process, Pastor Chad gave us a booklet “Baptized We Live – Lutheranism As A Way Of Life”.

Now I was born and raise Roman Catholic, so I don’t share the common Lutheran culture that many of you do. (I mean, I don’t even like Jello! ) So what I like about this booklet is that it attempts to answer the question “What is Lutheran Christianity?” in a manner that avoids defining Lutheranism as primarily a system of doctrines – let’s leave doctrines to the theologians! In contrast the booklet focuses on Lutheranism as a way of seeing, hearing, teaching and following.

Whenever the Sunday Adult Discussions begins this fall, I would like to devote a few sessions to discussing “What is Lutheranism As A Way Of Life?”

Now I realize that many of you are also not life-long Lutherans, and I would hope that you would find discussion of this booklet as informative as I did. There are portions of this booklet that I think I understand and agree with. There are portions that I think I understand but really do not. And there are portions that I think I understand, but disagree with. When you read this booklet, you may be in the same quandary I am in, but maybe by discussion we can reconcile our views.

And to those of you who are life-long Lutherans, and feel that additional discussion of what it means to live a Lutheran life would not benefit you, well you are invited to the discussions to serve as resources and to answer the “Stump The Dummy” questions!”

I have obtained additional copies of “Baptized We Live – Lutheranism As A Way Of Life” from the Augsburg Press, and if you would like to discuss this in Sunday Adult Discussions, please come to the first Sunday Adult Discussion session and pick up your copy.
