Lent is a time, certainly of preparation and introspection. Last week the Gospel reading had to do with Jesus being in the desert for 40 days. He went there seeking something. What was he seeking?
We know he was tested. We know he was being prepared. But perhaps he was seeking clarity as well.
The story is that at the end of his time, he was tempted to give up, to stop, to succumb to the temptations we are all faced with;
The temptation to appease our appetites of self-gratification
The temptation to using God for our own ends
The temptation of power
If you could go to a deserted place… what would you seek? Rest? Solitude? Preparation? Clarity?
