Lenten moment

Mark 10   with commentary

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him - as usual.

He's always travelling, going from place to place... seeing people - all kinds of people.

A blind man named Bartimaus was sitting there beside the road.   When he heard Jesus was nearby, he began shouting,
"Jesus!      Jesus!       Son of David... have mercy on me!"

How often we shout to the Lord when in  need!
How often are we in need that way?

"Be quiet!", many of the people yelled to him.

Basically - Don't disturb him,,, you're not good enough!
"You're not good enough!     You're not good enough!    You forget your place!"

And we listen to those voices...
                                      ....I'm not good enough!

But he wouldn't be silenced!
"Son of David... Son of David...   have mercy on me!"

Son of David... a reference to his kingship - his lineage to King David, the king who united the tribes and made them a powerful force to be reckoned with.
Son of David... don't forget your people!

When Jesus heard him, he stopped      and said, "Tell him to come here."
So they called the blind man over...  "Come, he's calling you!"

Bartimaus threw off his coat, jumped up and came to where Jesus was.

He was ready!

Either he'd been waiting for this moment for a long while... planning how this would work...   imagining in his head how all this would play out

                                 ...or...

Maybe he was taking advantage of the moment - it's NOW or never!

"What do you want me to do for you?"
           asks Jesus...

"What do you want me to do for you?"

"I want you to..."
How would you finish this question?

"My Rabbi..."  said the blind man...
"Open my eyes...    I want to see!

                            I want to see!"

I want to see!

And Jesus said to him,     "Go... your faith has healed you!"

Your faith has healed you...
I want to see!     And I now you can heal me!

Instantly the man could see,   and he followed Jesus down the road

If your eyes were opened...
                                              ...what would you see?

and how would you see it?
