Lenten Moment
Simplicity...
We've all spent at least a few moments thinking about (and probably telling someone else) how we feel the need to simplify our lives.
What do people usually mean
when they talk about
"Simplicity"?
...De-cluttering...
-our homes
-our lives
-our schedules
...Slowing our "rat-race" speed down...
--even just a little--
...Having more time to enjoy the things we enjoy most
(and just having more time!)
...And generally not having as strong a sense of being "encumbered" by stuff...
--having a sense of liking what you have
& minimizing the normal desire
to want
MORE!!
I know some people spent some of their Lent focusing on "simplifying" their lives
They used this idea of Simplicity as either the primary emphasis,
or this was one of a few areas of focus
How do we simplify our lives
---without complicating the desire to simplify
--or turning simplicity itself into another obsessive project
Step 1 - Don't make a list!
Step 2 - Get acquainted with yourself better!
Be aware of what you're feeling...
Are you really hungry... or just bored?
Are you lonely?
That would be a totally be cool new toy...
...but why do you really want it?
"All these channels and there's nothing good on TV!"... ...Go for a walk
...slowly...
...just to walk...
...and see stuff...
Step 4 - .... there is no 3...
Step 7 - Don't forget to pray when every you feel like it!
and be aware... sometimes the feeling for prayer may show up unannounced!
Welcome it in...
...welcome it home!
Let's just take a breath....
Meditate
On your breaths...
one...
two...
three...
Quiet your mind a little...
...let things settle...
...and just for fun,
see how many thoughts
want to make their way in
to your consciousness...
It's hilarious how they just can't wait to barge in!
...it's like they have a mind of their own!
Like little kids that completely need your attention...
...Just when you're on the phone!
Oh well, What's the rush!
Just repeat above as needed
You know...
a lot in our lives are like those thoughts
as we meditate...
They want to get our attention!
They distract us!
A lot of noise... and drama... and stuff!
The more we are able to hold to our center
What's important to us...
What feeds us... (the deeper parts of us)
The less annoying and distracting those other things will be!
I assume... I'm still working on this stuff too!
There are many interesting resources out there on Simplicity
Here's just a few below to try on for fit.
