Amazing Grace

The words of Amazing Grace take on new light when you consider that John Newton, who wrote it, was a slave trader who transported Africans by ship to the new colonies that made up the United States. By the time he wrote the hymn, Newton had left the slave trade and become a Minister. 20 years had passed, but he came to realize that if God could forgive him his errors, divine Grace is not just good - it is Amazing.
