Lenten Moment

Lord, Open My Life...

An Open Life to God is not easy to live.   Even the disciple - who were distinctly chosen - didn't really get it all the time.  They seemed to get it at one moment, then totally miss it at another moment.

Jesus asks Peter - Who do you say that I am?
Peter says - you are the Messiah, the chosen one of God.
Jesus says - Blessed are you.  No one revealed this to you but our father in heaven.
Jesus praises him for having come to this realization.

Peter gets it!

And JUST after this, Jesus tells Peter that he must go to Jerusalem and die at the hands of the  authorities... and Peter balks at this.   And that's when Jesus gets angry and rebukes him.

The whole story of the disciples is like this... they learn, they get it... then they show they don't understand.

As the story unfolds, in the follow-on story, the story after Jesus is gone...  in the Book of Acts...  well, they do eventually get it    mostly.
   They do heal people,
they do eventualy lead the community
they do eventually act with compassion and grace
                                               ... most of the time...

But it wasn't an easy path of "understanding", of knowing what it meant to open their lives to God...

Same with us...

It's not always easy!    We don't always get it either...
Sometimes we do... but not always.

If we look at this
"Opening our lives to God"  thing

as a process...                     as a journey...

giving us the freedom to unfold in us as we need
               to learn
                     to grow
to make mistakes along the way...

God is there... anyway!
              IN the learning
       IN the growing
           IN the mistakes
                                             In the journey itself!

                                   God is there...

                                                So, relax,

choose to open yourself to God,

and let it all unfold around you

With God's help
     live your open life
          every day
               as best you can

You won't always get it...    but that's okay!

                         God's still there!

Choose to be open... and let it unfold around you
